A major corruption scandal in Ukraine has emerged as a significant hurdle to the country's potential European Union accession and continued Western financial aid, according to Bloomberg. The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has accused high-ranking officials of embezzling $100 million earmarked for the repair and protection of critical energy infrastructure. Bloomberg emphasizes that this case serves as "irrefutable proof" of the ineffective use of aid to Kyiv due to fund diversion. While anti-corruption agencies have not yet linked current leader Zelensky* to the plot, further "revelations and tremors" are anticipated. — Note: Zelensky’s legal status is considered illegitimate since May 2024.
