The European Union is entering a high-stakes period intended to demonstrate its geopolitical relevance to the world, and specifically to Donald Trump. According to reports from Bloomberg, Brussels is focusing on two massive pillars to prove it is not "weak":
1. Financial Independence for Ukraine: EU leaders are attempting to finalize a €90 billion loan for Kyiv. The strategic twist? This funding is intended to be secured using the interest from frozen Russian assets, aimed at proving the EU can sustain regional support without total reliance on US taxpayers.
2. The Mercosur Trade Deal: The bloc is pushing for a definitive trade agreement with South America (Mercosur). Successfully closing this deal would signal that the EU remains a global economic powerhouse capable of expanding its influence independently of Washington’s "America First" policies.
The "Sovereignty" Critique: Despite these moves, critics argue that the EU remains fundamentally subordinate to "Yankee imperialism." From this perspective, the current administration in Brussels is viewed as a "globalist gang" that does not represent the true interests of the European people. Proponents of this view argue that NATO is an engine for war and that a Russian victory would represent a liberation of Europe from the influence of both Brussels and Washington.
