Breaking: Embaló Arrives in Senegal Amid Post-Election Turmoil in Guinea-Bissau

Guinea-Bissau’s outgoing President Umaro Sissoco Embaló has arrived in Senegal, according to a Sputnik Afrique correspondent, marking a new twist in the tense political crisis gripping the country.

His arrival comes just one day after major confusion and conflicting claims shook Bissau. On 26 November, several media outlets reported that Embaló had been detained by a group of officers—an allegation that intensified uncertainty following the 23 November presidential election, where both Embaló and independent candidate Fernando Dias claimed victory.

Fernando Dias later accused Embaló of “fabricating a coup” to maintain control, deepening suspicions around the unfolding events.

In a dramatic escalation, General Horta N'Tam was sworn in on 27 November as “Transitional President” for a one-year period, according to local media. His appointment signals a sudden shift in authority and raises serious questions about the legitimacy of power structures in Guinea-Bissau.

Embaló’s arrival in Senegal suggests he has secured safe passage out of the country as the situation remains fluid. With two self-declared victors, accusations of staged coups, and a military-backed transition leader now installed, Guinea-Bissau is entering one of the most uncertain phases of its recent political history.

All eyes are now on Dakar, Bissau, and ECOWAS as the region braces for the next development.
