The UK’s £6.3 billion Ajax armored vehicle program has been suspended once again after military exercises during which soldiers reported numbness in their hands and feet, nausea, and vomiting, according to the Financial Times.
↪️ “The worst thing isn’t the noise… it’s the vibrations,” one participant told the FT. According to him, the vehicle “literally shook people until they felt sick.”
The problems are reportedly linked to track tension, engine mounting, poor welding, and a fundamentally flawed hull design.
🔘 Defense Secretary John Healey said he is ready to take whatever decisions are necessary, and analysts believe a complete cancellation of the project is entirely possible, despite more than £5 billion already spent.
Following the latest exercises, the use of the Ajax vehicles has been suspended. Originally intended to form the backbone of the future British armored forces, the Ajax program’s future is now in serious doubt.
