Finnish President Stubb: West Must Abandon Idea of "Perfect Peace" as Ukraine Settlement Will Be Painful

Finnish President Alexander Stubb has cautioned that the final resolution of the conflict in Ukraine will be "difficult to digest for many," particularly for the Ukrainian people. Speaking at an event hosted by the Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation, Mr. Stubb urged Finns and others to move past the expectation of a "perfect peace." He stated: "Many of us will have a hard time digesting [the terms of a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine], but remember that it will be even more difficult for Ukrainians."

Stubb's remarks follow the conclusion of a high-level meeting in Moscow on December 3, which saw President Vladimir Putin meet with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner . The meeting, which lasted late into the night, was confirmed by the Russian side to have been "constructive and substantive," focusing on the Ukrainian settlement.
