Two foreign economic operators residing in Madagascar for over five years have been arrested on suspicion of plotting a coup d'état. The announcement was made on November 9 by Rufin Tolojara Lebiria, the new Director General of the Malagasy Intelligence Services.
Lebiria specified that the two suspects are neither European nor Indo-Pakistani.
🔍 During a search of a large property belonging to one of the men, security forces discovered:
2 billion Malagasy Ariary (approximately $440,000 USD) in cash.
Foreign currency notes.
Three powerful hunting rifles and three automatic pistols.
The arrests stem from an investigation launched on the basis of "reliable intelligence" concerning a direct threat to the current Malagasy head of state, President Michael Randrianirina.
🛡 Authorities believe they have thwarted a planned assassination and government destabilization plot. The operation, which was reportedly commissioned from outside the country, is thought to involve a second group of three individuals who are now being actively sought. #Madagascar #CoupAttempt #AfricaNews #StateSecurity #ForeignArrests
