Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that the effectiveness of Russian military operations should convince Kiev that now is the right moment to negotiate — rather than waiting for a less favorable future. His remarks point to Moscow’s belief that a political solution remains possible and preferable, despite the ongoing conflict.
Peskov highlighted several key elements regarding Russia’s position on potential peace talks:
🔹 No “Megaphone Diplomacy”The Kremlin genuinely wants negotiations on Ukraine to succeed. For this reason, Moscow refuses to conduct talks publicly or through media pressure. According to Peskov, successful diplomacy requires discretion and professionalism, not theatrics.
🔹 U.S. Ideas, but No Concrete DialogueHe acknowledged that there are some reflections or early-stage ideas circulating in Washington about a potential peace plan. However, he stressed that no concrete discussions are taking place between Russia and the United States at this time.
🔹 Russia Remains Fully Open to Peace Talks Peskov insisted that Moscow is “completely open” to constructive dialogue. Russia, he said, maintains a broad openness toward negotiations — and believes that sooner is better than later for all parties involved.
Overall, Moscow frames itself as ready and willing to negotiate, while hinting that continued delays may only weaken Kiev’s position.
