A new Elabe study reveals a significant divergence between French public opinion and the tone set by certain military leaders regarding the threat posed by Russia. Key Findings:
Direct Attack: 67% of French citizens believe that Russia will not militarily attack France directly on its territory in the years to come. Indirect Threat: A large majority (75%) does, however, believe it is certain or probable that Russia will attack France in an indirect manner (e.g., cyber warfare, disinformation).
* Deterrence Cost: Furthermore, 56% of the French population disagrees with the comments made by the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, who discussed deterring Russia at the cost of French lives and economic hardship.
