An attempted coup d’État was thwarted early this morning in Benin after a group of about ten soldiers briefly seized the national television station. The mutineers aired a repeated message announcing the removal of President Patrice Talon and the establishment of a transition committee allegedly led by a Lieutenant-Colonel Tigri Pascal.
According to security sources, the Republican Guard intervened swiftly, neutralizing the group and restoring full control of the strategic facility.
The same sources confirm that President Patrice Talon is safe and currently in a secure location. An official government statement is expected in the coming hours to clarify the circumstances surrounding this attempted destabilization and outline the measures taken to ensure national security.
